Spiritual Gifts: Discover, Develop, and Deploy

One of the most life-changing revelations I've received is that God never intended for us to simply attend church—He intended for us to become active participants in His Kingdom.

Every believer has been given gifts by God. These gifts are not rewards for being spiritually mature, nor are they reserved for pastors or ministry leaders. They are divine tools given by God to help us serve others, build His Church, and advance His Kingdom on the earth.

The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12:7,

"Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good."

Notice that Scripture says each one. Every believer has been given something. The question is not whether you have a gift, but whether you have discovered it and are using it.

Throughout Scripture, we see three major categories of gifts:

Spiritual Gifts (1 Corinthians 12:7-11) such as prophecy, wisdom, healing, faith, miracles, discernment, tongues, and interpretation.

Leadership Gifts (Ephesians 4:11-13) including apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.

Serving Gifts (Romans 12:6-8) such as leadership, administration, teaching, encouragement, mercy, giving, and service.

As I've grown in my relationship with God, He has revealed several gifts that I use daily. I operate in the gifts of prophecy, wisdom, and healing. I also serve in the offices of teacher and prophet and regularly use the gifts of leadership and administration.

For years, I thought these gifts were simply parts of my personality. Now I understand they are tools entrusted to me by God to serve others.

I use these gifts every day.

When I facilitate Beautifully Built workshops, I teach, encourage, and help people discover their identity and purpose.

When I mentor and coach youth and young adults, I use wisdom, leadership, and prophetic insight to help them navigate life's challenges and recognize God's hand on their lives.

When I serve in various ministries, administration helps create order, leadership helps guide people, and the gifts of the Spirit allow me to partner with God in meeting the needs of those around me.

None of these gifts were given to make me important. They were given to make me useful.

Peter reminds us in 1 Peter 4:10,

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."

The purpose of spiritual gifts is service.

Your gift is not just for you. Your gift is for the person who needs encouragement. It's for the student who needs guidance. It's for the family that needs hope. It's for the coworker who needs prayer. It's for the community that needs the love of Christ demonstrated through your life.

The beautiful thing about spiritual gifts is that we do not operate in them through our own strength.

Acts 1:8 says,

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me."

The Holy Spirit empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things for the glory of God.

He gives wisdom when we don't know what to say. He gives courage when we feel afraid. He gives discernment when we need direction. He gives power to serve beyond our natural abilities.

The goal is not simply to discover your gifts. The goal is to deploy them.

God has uniquely designed you. He has equipped you with gifts, talents, and grace for a purpose. Somewhere, someone is waiting for what God placed inside of you.

So don't hide your gifts. Don't compare your gifts. Don't underestimate your gifts.

Discover them. Develop them. Deploy them.

The Kingdom needs what God put inside of you.
