The Lie You Believed

What if the reason you’re not seeing the promises of God in your life isn’t because God hasn’t spoken—but because somewhere along the way, you believed a lie?

And Beauty, you’re not the only one.

I had a lie too.

For me, the lie the enemy used to keep me stuck was simple:

I wasn’t wanted.

Now, nobody necessarily sat me down and said those words to me. That’s the thing about the enemy—sometimes he doesn’t have to. He’ll take the circumstances of your life and begin creating a narrative around them.

And because a lie doesn’t work unless it’s believable, he’ll gladly present you with evidence to support it.

For me, one of those pieces of “evidence” was the separation of my mother and father.

Their relationship ended when I was a toddler, but my father had been present in the lives of my older siblings. From my perspective, it seemed like they had something with him that I didn’t.

They had memories.

They had experiences.

They had a relationship.

And I didn’t.

Somewhere along the way, the enemy began using those differences to reinforce a lie: See? You weren’t wanted.

And the crazy thing is, I didn’t realize just how much that lie was controlling me.

When Bondage Starts Looking Like Personality

That lie had become so deeply enmeshed in my soul that eventually, I stopped recognizing it as bondage.

It just looked like…me.

I was the perfectionist.

I was the overachiever.

I was the golden child.

I was the good girl.

I needed to do well. I needed to get it right. I needed to achieve. I needed to be dependable. I needed to prove that I was valuable.

And for a long time, those things looked like strengths.

But underneath some of them was a little girl trying to prove:

See, I’m worth wanting.

Whew.

Sometimes what we call our “personality” is really a survival strategy we developed around a lie.

And sometimes we’ve lived with that lie for so long that we don’t even realize it’s influencing our relationships, our decisions, our obedience, our boundaries, and even how we respond to God.

The Lie Was Keeping Me Stuck

That was my lie.

That was the lie the Holy Spirit had to reveal.

That was the lie Jesus had to deliver me from.

And that was the place He had to heal.

Because how could I fully walk into what God was calling me to while still allowing a lie from my past to determine who I believed I was?

At some point, the truth of what God says about you has to become louder than the evidence the enemy keeps presenting to you.

Maybe your lie isn’t “I’m not wanted.”

Maybe yours is:

I’m not good enough.

I’m too old.

I’m too young.

I missed my opportunity.

I don’t have enough money.

I’m not qualified.

People like me don’t do things like that.

I tried before and failed, so maybe it wasn’t God.

I need somebody else to validate me before I move.

Or maybe your lie sounds spiritual:

“I’m just waiting on God.”

But what if God is waiting on your obedience?

Beauty, Do You Know Your Lie?

This is where vision becomes important.

We can write the vision.

We can create the plan.

We can pray over the business.

We can talk about the ministry.

We can dream about the book.

We can imagine the nonprofit, the career, the degree, the family, the community initiative, or whatever else God has placed in our hearts.

But if we never address the root system underneath what has kept us from moving, we can have vision and still remain stuck.

Sometimes you don't need another prophetic word.

Sometimes you need to confront the lie that has kept you from obeying the last one.

And Beauty, that’s what we’re doing this September.

BWBC Vision Casting Series

This month at Beautiful Word Bible Collective, we’re getting intentional about identifying and uprooting whatever has been keeping us from moving forward with what God has assigned to us.

This isn't just about creating pretty vision boards.

We’re asking harder questions.

What did God tell you to build?

What have you been afraid to start?

What lie have you believed?

What needs to be uprooted before you can move forward?

And ultimately:

What does obedience look like now?

We are women of God. We have been created to birth and nurture.

So, Beauty—what are you birthing?

What are you nurturing?

What has God placed inside of you that the world is still waiting to experience?

How are you using your gifts, your voice, your profession, your resources, your testimony, and your influence to advance the Kingdom of God?

It’s time to find out what has been keeping you stuck—and uproot it.

Join us this Tuesday and every Tuesday in September for the BWBC Vision Casting Series, live on Zoom and YouTube.

Bring your Bible.

Bring your journal.

Bring your vision.

And bring a friend who you know has been sitting on something God told her to do.

Beauty, it’s time to get unstuck.

It’s time to uproot the lie.

It’s time to believe God.

And it’s time to BUILD.
