You Prayed for Restoration, But...

Sis, those prophetic words you’ve been getting about God restoring you and giving you back everything the enemy tried to steal, kill, and destroy?

They’re true.

But there’s a part about restoration that we don’t talk about enough.

Sis, restoration can be messy.

We love the idea of restoration. We love hearing words like renewal, rebuilding, recovery, and double for your trouble. And rightfully so. There is something beautiful about knowing that God can take what was broken and make it whole again.

But have you ever actually watched something be restored?

It’s usually not pretty in the beginning.

The Bible uses a lot of building language when talking about our lives. We’re called temples. Jesus is called the cornerstone. And in Matthew 7, Jesus tells the story of two builders—one who built his house on the rock and another who built his house on sand.

The lesson is simple: what you build on matters.

And sis, have you ever seen a perfectly good, fully functioning house get completely renovated for no reason?

Yeah…me either.

Buildings are restored, renovated, and flipped because something needs attention. There are things that have to be pulled up. Walls that have to come down. Old flooring that has to be ripped out. Wiring that needs to be replaced. Sometimes, things have to be completely demolished before anything new can be built in their place.

And maybe that’s where you are right now.

Maybe God promised you restoration, but instead of your life immediately getting prettier, it seems like everything started getting messier.

Things are shifting.

Relationships are changing.

Doors are closing.

Things you once felt secure in suddenly don’t feel so secure anymore.

And you’re thinking, God, I thought You said You were restoring me. Why does it feel like I’m losing everything?

Because sometimes rebuilding begins with removing.

Some of us have spent years building on unstable foundations. We built identities on people’s approval. We built security around relationships. We built our worth around accomplishments. We built entire versions of ourselves around survival.

And then, on top of those shaky foundations, we collected stuff.

Habits. Mindsets. Relationships. Coping mechanisms. False identities. Expectations. Unhealed wounds.

We decorated the house and learned how to make it feel like home—even though underneath it all, the foundation was sinking.

But here’s the good news.

We serve a Lord and Savior who is our Rock. Jesus is the cornerstone. And when we finally surrender the house to Him, He doesn’t just come in and redecorate what we built.

He rebuilds.

And rebuilding can feel like breaking.

Sometimes the mess is part of the restoration.

The separation may be part of the restoration.

The losing may be part of the restoration.

The isolation may be part of the restoration.

Even the season where everything feels destabilized may be part of God lovingly removing what cannot support where He is taking you.

So, sis, take heart.

Just because things look torn apart doesn’t mean God abandoned the project.

You may simply be under reconstruction.

And after the breaking comes the rebuilding.

After the demolition comes the new foundation.

After God removes what was never meant to hold you, He begins establishing you on what can never be shaken.

So surrender the broken pieces.

Let the Potter work out the kinks. Let the Builder remove what needs to go. Let Him strengthen the foundation. Let Him rebuild you according to His original design.

Because God isn’t interested in simply making the old version of you look better.

He is building something that can carry His glory.

And when He’s finished, sis, you won’t just be restored.

You’ll be beautifully built.

Building,

Erika Michelle
